Onion Dome Nears Completion

imageEdward Pierson can bee seen standing next to his creation that will soon adorn the monastery temple.  The dome is due to be painted “cobalt blue” color within the next week.  Once painted Alexander Karg, a blacksmith and monastery parishoner, will be adding eight pointed gold stars and a three bar cross thrust into a crescent moon at the base.

The cost of renting a crane is high, so we would welcome donations towards the cost of placing this much awaited onion dome on top of the temple.

Driving up the road to the monastery, the first image one gets is that of the church. Now, after all these years, everyone will know they have arrived at a “Russian” monastery! Glory to God!

imageThe Brotherhood is grateful to Edward and Alexander for sharing their talents in service to the monastery and God’s Holy Church!

Also work continues elsewhere on the monastery grounds: the trapeza kitchen nears completion, and the bookstore/gift shop and offices building is begun.

Building Update

imageThe Monastery building project continues. The tile has been completed in two of the bathrooms in the monastic cells, with the Trapeza’s kitchen floors scheduled to be completed soon. The first photograph shows off our new Trapeza, with the beautiful new Brazilian Tigerwood floors.

imageThe second photograph displays the beginnings of the wisteria adorning the pergola that fronts the St. John Chapel.

The third photograph was emailed to the monastery by our friend and benefactor, Doctor Robert Fouty, showing the progress on the new iconastasis.

imageDon’t forget to place the date for the upcoming Monastery Pilgrimage on your calendars, dear friends. Our annual Monastery Pilgrimage takes place on Saturday, August 16th. We have room for tents, if you are so inclined, and there are plenty of B&B’s on the island, for those who are coming from distances.

Progress!

imageThe brotherhood rejoices at the progress being made toward the completion of the Monastery. The Church of the Holy Protection, the Metropolitan Laurus Memorial Library and Sitting Room, and the Trapeza, are all nearing completion.

We hope to have the onion dome placed on the church by mid June. The new Brazilian Tigerwood floors in the church and trapeza are absolutely spectacular, and the permanent iconostasis will be installed in a few weeks.

imageWe wish to once again thank all our benefactors and friends for your continued financial support, making all this possible! May God bless all of you!
