Nun Tonsured

imageFollowing the Vigil service on the Friday before Nativity, with the blessing of Archbishop Kyrill, the novice Eva was tonsured a Rassaphore-nun, with the name Sister Photini, after Saint Photini the Hermitess. She continues living in a small trailer, situated in the back field of a local island farm, which she rents from a woman. She makes her income as a “care giver”, and has a wonderful reputation as one of the best professional care givers on the island. image(I’ve been told this by many nurses, at both the island’s assisted living home and care center, and a nurse with the local Red Cross.) She is a sweet and humble woman, much loved by everyone who knows her, and is very serious about her Orthodox Faith. God willing, she will be the seed for a woman’s monastery, on Vashon Island. Please remember the newly tonsured Nun Photini, in your prayers.

Record Snow

image
Novice Christos, Hieromonk Tryphon, and Hierodeaon Paul, making up the snow patrol! Record snows and cold, have given us more snow than the Puget Sound region has had in four decades!

imageThe Holy Brotherhood of the All-Merciful Saviour, wishes all our brothers and sisters who are celebrating according to the New Calendar, a blessed and joyous Holy Nativity. For the rest of us, who keep the Church Calendar, we continue with the Nativity Fast, until January 7th, when we, too, will celebrate the birth of our Lord, God and Saviour, Christ Jesus.

Storms Cut Off the Monastery

imageThe monastery was cut off from the rest of the island, due to bad road conditions, with the coming of the first snow storm of the year.

Authorities are predicting a very harsh winter for the Puget Sound Region, and we’ve aleady had record breaking cold.
