Mulino Parish Visits the Monastery
Twenty-five or so parishioners from New Martyrs of Russia Church in Mulino, Oregon, made a pilgrimage to the monastery for the Labor Day weekend.
Camping out in the St. Seraphim’s Wood, the beautiful forest that surrounds the monastery, they attended services, shared meals together with the monks, and heard two talks by Father Tryphon, one for the youth, and one for the adults. They all voiced interest in making this an annual event.
Pilgrimage 2008
Over one hundred pilgrims gathered on Vashon Island, a twenty minute ferry ride from Seattle, Washington, for the annual Monastery Pilgrimage of All-Merciful Saviour Russian Orthodox Monastery. The monks were commemorating twenty years since the establishment of their monastery on Vashon Island, and the near completion of the monastery’s building project. The monks were able to raise their new onion dome atop the monastery church, dedicated to the Protection of the Holy Theotokos, one week earlier.
With the completion of the trapeza, kitchen, public restrooms, library, four new monastic cells, new plaza with fountain, and the near completion of the bookstore/office building, the monastic brotherhood offered thanks to all their supporters, and to God for His merciful kindness and the many blessings bestowed upon the monastery.
It was in August of 1988 that the monks moved to the island, and twenty-two years ago (1986) that they first celebrated August 1st, Old Style, as the Patronal Feast of the Brotherhood. Hieromonk Tryphon is superior of the monastery, which now numbers five brethren.
