Metropolitan KALLISTOS Lectures Locally

imageThe whole of the Orthodox community of the Puget Sound region was blessed with the arrival of His Eminence, The Most Reverend Metropolitan KALLISTOS of Diokleia, the beloved author of “The Orthodox Church” and the “The Orthodox Way”, and one of the world’s foremost Orthodox Christian authors, teachers, and scholars.  Vladyka Kallistos was in the region to deliver major addresses at both Pacific Lutheran University and Seattle Pacific University. His Eminence, who for 35 years was the Spalding Lecturer in Eastern Christian Studies at Oxford University, addressed both universities with a lecture entitled: “Salvation in Christ: the Orthodox Approach”.

imageOn Wednesday, March 5th, His Eminence, as per his own request, was brought to Seattle’s St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral (ROCOR) in order to venerate the room wherein reposed the holy archbishop, St. John the Wonderworker, a bishop who was directly involved in the conversion of Metropolitan Kallistos so very many years ago. The Metropolitan was greeted by the cathedral’s dean, Archpriest Alex Kotar, and Hieromonk Tryphon, superior of All-Merciful Saviour Monastery. A wonderful luncheon was served in the cathedral’s rectory by Matuska Natalia Kotar, following.

Founder of the Indonesian Orthodox Church Visits the Monastery

imageOur brotherhood was blessed with a visit by our friend Archimandrite Daniel, founder of the Indonesian Orthodox Church. Father Daniel is a convert from Islam and a wonderful evangelist for Christ and Holy Orthodoxy. He is under the Patriarchate of Moscow, and is traveling around the United States, raising money for his mission. Please remember to pray for the success of this God protected mission, and for the safety and well being of Father Daniel and his clergy and flock. As we all know, it is dangerous for Christians living under Islam, and especially dangerous for converts from Islam, being under a ban of death.

The Indonesian Orthodox Church is dependent on the prayers and donations of God’s people everywhere. Without your support, this new, struggling community of believers would be in danger of extinction. Please give generously to our brothers and sisters in Indonesia. You may do so by sending a check to Friends of Indonesia, PO Box 9484, Baltimore, MD 21228.

We encourage you to visit their website as well, at: http://www.friendsofindonesia.org.
