Monastery Email List

imageWe have been wanting to establish an email list for sometime and finally have one in place.  If you wish to stay abreast of news and other announcements from the Monastery we invite you to subscribe.  We expect that every month or so we will send out an update about the Monastery.  Our list service allows you to easily manage your account should your email address change or if you want to unsubscribe.

We are grateful to all our supporters for their prayers and support and believe that our list will help us stay in better touch with all of you.

Two Generations Serve At The Monastery

imageFather and son, Peter and Michael Serko have served together in the altar for a number of years.  Michael, now sixteen, first started serving as an eight year old and as the inset photo shows he has grown up quite a bit in that time.  Michael has over the years outgrown all the server vestments at the monastery.  Both he and Peter are wearing new vestments Peter acquired while on his recent pilgrimage to Mt Athos.  The Monastery is grateful to the Serkos for their service to our small mission church.

AmeriCorps Volunteers Work at the Monastery

imageA group of nine AmeriCorps volunteers spent two days working on the grounds of the monastery. Cleaning debris and clearing underbrush, they greatly reduced the chance of wildfire during the season of drought. One of the young women with carpentry skills joined the island volunteers on the construction project of the three monastic cells. They were treated to a wonderful meal and enjoyed fellowship with other island volunteers. We greatly appreciate their kindness and their youthful enthusiasm.

See the new construction photo gallery.
