Hieromonk Tryphon Elevated to Igumen
Hieromonk Tryphon was elevated to the rank of igumen, during the Hierarchical Liturgy, celebrated in the monastery’s temple, on January 9th. This was Bishop Theodosius’ first archpastoral visitation to the Vashon Island monastery.
Abbot Tryphon announced that Vladyka Theodosy plans to spend a week, during the beginning of Great Lent, with the monastic brotherhood.
Nun Tonsured
Following the Vigil service on the Friday before Nativity, with the blessing of Archbishop Kyrill, the novice Eva was tonsured a Rassaphore-nun, with the name Sister Photini, after Saint Photini the Hermitess. She continues living in a small trailer, situated in the back field of a local island farm, which she rents from a woman. She makes her income as a “care giver”, and has a wonderful reputation as one of the best professional care givers on the island. 
(I’ve been told this by many nurses, at both the island’s assisted living home and care center, and a nurse with the local Red Cross.) She is a sweet and humble woman, much loved by everyone who knows her, and is very serious about her Orthodox Faith. God willing, she will be the seed for a woman’s monastery, on Vashon Island. Please remember the newly tonsured Nun Photini, in your prayers.

Visiting the Monastery
We welcome pilgrims and visitors to the Monastery, however, we kindly request that you call first before making the trip to Vashon.
Dress Code for visitors to the monastery:
Men: Pants (no shorts), shirt (no T-shirts)
Women: Head covering (scarf) should be worn at all times both in church and on monastery grounds
Long dress or skirt (below the knees) with long sleeves. No make up or perfume
Orthodox clergy should wear cassocks or riassas.
